EnhanceTV - reaching the education market

EnhanceTV logoWith Screenrights now collecting more than $23 million a year from educational copying, filmmakers are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits of marketing their work effectively to this sector.

Screenrights developed the EnhanceTV website to provide teachers with the resources they need to use audiovisual material in the classroom. Educational programs to be broadcast on television are highlighted on the site, and in an email newsletter circulated to over 20,000 Australian educators every week. This gives teachers the advance notice they need to copy, and provides exposure for filmmakers. A New Zealand educational TV guide is also distributed to people with a Screenrights licence in New Zealand.

Many of the most copied programs have accompanying study guides to help educators plan lessons. The Film Finance Corporation has a policy of funding the production of study guides for many FFC funded Australian educational documentaries. Producing a study guide for your program can be a useful way to encourage its use in the classroom. Information about producing guides can be obtained from the Australian Teachers of Media.

ISAN - a new way to identify your work

ISAN Australasia logoThe ISAN (International Standard Audiovisual Number) is a voluntary numbering system for the identification of audiovisual works. It provides a unique, internationally recognised and permanent reference number for each audiovisual work registered in the ISAN system. ISAN is like the ISBN used in the book industry. Its benefits include improving efficiencies in data management, royalty systems, and in combating piracy.

The ISAN Australasia registration agency is represented by Screenrights and APRA/AMCOS and was officially launched in Australia in 2006.

The retransmission payments we receive from Screenrights help us to fund more great programs for Australians to enjoy. Our sincere thanks go to Screenrights for all the work they do in the collection and distribution of retransmission royalties, an important new revenue stream for us.”
