Screenrights Announces Election Results at AGM

Screenrights last night announced its Board election results at its Annual General Meeting, held at the company’s office in Sydney.

Joining the Screenrights Board is writer Geoffrey Atherden, best known for his multi award winning television programs including Mother and Son, BabaKiueria and Grass Roots. He has served as President of the Australian Writers’ Guild, President of the Australian Writers’ Foundation and served two terms on the Board of Screen NSW. In 2009 he was made a Member of the Order of Australia.

Re-elected to the Screenrights Board are:

Ben Grant, Managing Director of Goalpost Pictures

Chris Oliver-Taylor, Managing Director, Matchbox Pictures

Dean Ormston, Head of Member Services Group APRA AMCOS and Deputy Chair of the Australian Copyright Council.

Speaking at the AGM, Screenrights Chairman Jill Bryant said: “The Board will continue to ensure Screenrights participates actively in the copyright environment, on behalf of members and stakeholders. We thank all Screenrights’ voting members for their interest and participation in this year’s elections.”

“We are delighted to welcome Geoffrey Atherden to the board table, one of Australia’s leading screenwriters. Geoffrey is a passionate advocate for the creators of Australian culture. He has wide-ranging experience within the industry and that will add to the wealth of industry knowledge already on the Board. I am also pleased that the membership chose to return the three board members seeking re-election as each brings considerable value to our skills mix”, Jill Bryant said.

Jill Bryant also paid tribute to retiring director Maureen Barron. “We were sorry that Maureen decided to stand down this year. Maureen has been an active Director for the last 9 years and has brought considerable expertise to the Board with her extensive industry experience. I shall miss both her passion and wisdom.

“The next 12 months will present both opportunities and challenges and we look forward to working closely with the screen industry, government and educators. We will continue to adapt to the changing copyright landscape and find increasingly innovative ways to access content and provide crucial revenue streams for rightsholders.”
