Screenrights’ Submission to Productivity Commission

Screenrights made a submission to the Productivity Commission in response to its draft report on Australia’s intellectual property arrangements.

Screenrights expressed its concerns on behalf of the membership that the draft report’s recommendations are based on a flawed rationale and fail to take into account the role of exceptions such as the Screenrights licences.

Screenrights is concerned that the recommendations including the introduction of fair use, and the reduction in the term of copyright would undermine the Australian production sector’s ability to make great content.

This content is vital to Australian society, and it is crucial that the Productivity Commission considers the impact of its recommendations on Australian rights holders.

Screenrights will continue to consult with stakeholders to ensure that the Commission understands their concerns.
