Screenrights welcomes the publication of the Exposure Draft of a bill to simplify and modernise elements of the Copyright Act, including the educational statutory licence which Screenrights administers. The licence provides teachers with access to the broadcast content they need will ensuring the copyright owners are paid for the use of their work. Screenrights supports the goal of updating the licence and making it as simple as possible for all.
Screenrights is reviewing the draft and will consult with members and other stakeholders in the New Year. We look forward to the opportunity to comment on the Bill. A copy of the Exposure Draft is available from the Department of Communications and the Arts: https://www.communications.gov.au/have-your-say/updating-australias-copyright-laws.
