Activity: Addressing under representation of First Nations screenwriters by providing training in note-taking and script coordination, proven pathways to screenwriting careers. Delivered by Screenworks in partnership with the Australian Writers’ Guild (AWG), this program will train under-represented, aspiring First Nations regional screenwriters in practical note-taking and script-coordinating skills – recognised entry points and pathways toward a career as a screenwriter.
Outcome: 17 participants were selected from 45 applications following a 3-month call out, for the program that was renamed ‘Seeding Storytellers’. As well as delivering the 3-day training session, the tutors made themselves available for further consultation and guidance which was greatly appreciated by the participants. Following the completion of the training program the participants were given the opportunity to put their details on the AWG’s First Break webpage, where they are showcased as trained note-takes and contactable for work opportunities. Screenworks continues to work with the Seeding Storyteller participants, to help them build skills and confidence in note-taking, and to source work as note-takers. “We appreciated the opportunity to be able to offer this cohort of First Nations emerging writers the opportunity to enhance and develop specific note-taking and script co ordinating training.” – Lisa O’Meara, Screenworks
