Activity: ‘Stories From Another Australia’ is a talent and career development program that aims to address issues around the lack of cultural diversity in the screen industry through a tailored skills development program designed to bring together emerging CaLD screenwriters and experienced industry practitioners. The program will create a network of support and potential collaborators. It will also provide participants with the tools to unlock four key enablers essential in establishing and sustaining a screenwriting career.
December 2021 Update: ‘Stories From Another Australia’ launched in September and from their first workshop in December selected six talented writers to participate in the program. The second workshop has already been confirmed for February 2022, and we are looking forward to hearing more.
April 2022 Update: Co-Curious’ Stories From Another Australia program held part of their second workshop via Zoom and followed up with a one-day in person workshop on April 22 when Covid cases and restrictions were less problematic. They are currently planning a third in person workshop and some further professional development sessions.
August 2022 Update: Co-Curious’ Stories From Another Program is in its final stages in NSW and is about to launch year two in Victoria. In April 2022 the company engaged three new staff who have been crucial to interrogating the Co-Curious model and looking for ways to refine their work. Stories NSW began in a collaborative practice setting and the company is now providing tailored professional development opportunities for each of the six participants.
January 2023 Update: Co-Curious is now part way through phase two of the program – currently running in Victoria. Having learnt so much from year one in NSW, the second iteration, run out of the Footscray Community Arts Centre, has to date been a great success and feedback has been excellent.
